Middle School Band Programs
Here you will find a basic description of instrumental music courses offered at the Pulaski County Middle Schools.
6th Grade Beginning Band
The 6th grade beginning band focuses on teaching basic instrumental technique, note and rhythm reading, and basic musicianship.
Beginning band focuses on teaching basic musical concepts to students in order to advance in skill level on their instrument. Instruments taught in beginning band include the woodwind family, brass family, and percussion family.
The 6th grade beginning band will perform music from beginning band method books and VBODA grade I literature in multiple concerts.
No musical experience is needed before joining 6th grade band.
8th Grade Band
The 8th grade band will continue to advance their fundamental techniques and musicality while developing more advanced instrumental music skills.
8th grade band members will continue to learn their major scales, chromatic scales, and rudiments (percussion). Students in the 8th grade band are encouraged to audition for All-District Band in December.
The 8th grade band will perform VBODA grades II and III literature in multiple concerts and at VBODA Concert Assessment.
First year players are welcome! Please speak to Mr. Faller ASAP to get fitted for an instrument if you are interested in joining as a first time player in 8th grade!
7th Grade Band
The 7th grade band takes concepts learned in their 6th grade beginning band class and builds on them throughout the year. An emphasis is made on reinforcing key fundamentals of musicality and instrumental technique.
7th grade band members will also learn their major and chromatic scales. 7th grade percussion students will learn the first 13 rudiments for snare drum.
Students in the 7th grade band will perform VBODA grades I and II literature in multiple concerts and at VBODA Concert Assessment.

Pulaski County Middle School Concert Band
The Pulaski County Middle School Concert Band will consist of members of the 7th and 8th grade bands. The primary focus of this performing group will be to prepare for VBODA Concert Assessment and any community or school events in which performances are desired.

Members of the PCMS Concert Band will perform a variety of literature. Literature will range from ungraded pop/holiday music, to VBODA grade level III music.
Members of the PCMS Concert Band will develop, and strengthen, their skills on their instruments, as well as musicality and artistry as an ensemble.
